Journalist Stephen Letoo has stepped down as the chairman of the men's conference.

In a video, Letoo said he arrived to that decision after soul searching and consultation with friends.

"I have tendered my resignation to the office of the Men's Conference based in  Nairobi and I will cease being the chairman with immediate effect."

“I will allow my members to seek my replacement and I want to assure them that I will be available for consultations and any advice, if they seek it."

Letoo, who has previously advocated for polygamy was under pressure from social media users when he married one wife in his public wedding last month.

In February, Letoo said the sole mandate is to champion the well-being of the boy child, which is commemorated on Valentine's day.

This year's theme was 'Men and Safety.' Their focus was road safety focusing on boda boda riders.

"Majority of those who lost their lives sadly are boda boda riders who are part and parcel of the men's conference group.  99 % of the riders are men and we care for our fellow men," said Letoo at the time

Representatives of the Men's Conference are in the process of recruiting a new chairperson. They said they will announce the advert for the vacant position in the daily newspapers.
