Radio Africa Group CEO Patrick Quarcoo has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award, by the AllAfrica Media Leaders’ Summit at a colourful event at Glee Hotel in Runda, Nairobi on Thursday night.

Quarcoo has been honoured at the AllAfrica Gala Dinner and Excellence Award Ceremony for his dedication and contributions, which have shaped the landscape of journalism in Africa.

In his acceptance speech, Quarcoo dedicated the award to journalists in Africa and called for more innovation in the media landscape.

"Thank you so much for the award. I want to dedicate this award to hundreds of journalists in Africa. For everybody who joins my organisation I tell them that we must create incredible media products that change countries," Quarcoo said.

"We have an incredible responsibility to listen to our market and shape minds to make it happen."

Other awards categories presented included the AllAfrica Titan Leadership Award in recognition of exceptional service in economic transformation and human development in Africa which was scooped by Dr Akinwumi Adesina.

The AllAfrica and University of Nairobi Wangari Maathai Young Journalist Award in recognition of the best use of digital tools for youth engagement, where Hope Nabalayo emerged the winner, with Zachary Nyakweba being the first runners up and Kairu Karega(2nd runners up.)

The African Development Bank Journalism Award in recognition of excellence in development reporting;

The African Export-Import Bank Journalism Award in recognition of excellence in reporting on regional integration. Boason Omofaye emerged as the winner in this category.

The African Capacity Building Foundation Award in recognition of excellence in reporting on capacity building. Emmanuel Dogbevi scooped the honours in this category.

The AllAfrica and ONE Campaign Newsroom Innovation Youth Challenge top 3 Awards for excellence in developing new and innovative ways to enable newsrooms to engage the African youth. In this category, Dixon Yiadom emerged as the winner, Nelago Yohannes(1st runner-up), and Oyomide Agbadge(2nd runner-up).

In a notification on April 30, the AllAfrica Media Leaders’ Summit said Quarcoo’s unwavering commitment to excellence has set a standard of integrity and professionalism that continues to inspire the industry for generations to come.

"Your impact on the development of The Radio Africa Group is immeasurable, and your legacy is a testament to your passion for truth, storytelling, and the power of communication. We believe that your outstanding achievements deserve the highest form of recognition, and we are delighted to bestow upon you this Lifetime Achievement Award."

The 2024 AllAfrica Media Leaders’ Summit brings together more than 300 African media owners and operators, government officials, corporate leaders, academics, civil society champions, and development partners.

The Summit was held in Nairobi, Kenya, beginning May 8 to 10, 2024.

The theme for the 2024 Summit is Re-engineering African Media in Times of Critical Transformation.

During the summit, they discussed the business of media and the critical role it must play in shaping Africa’s future.

Agendas during the summit included African Economic Transformation, AI, Technology and Digitisation, Regional Integration and Peace Building, Misinformation and Disinformation, Governance, Standards, Capacity Building and Creating Sustainable Business Models.
