Binyavanga Wainaina, a celebrated Kenyan author, journalist and gay rights activist is no more.

Despite all the hate and backlash he received over the past years, it did not stop him from fulfilling his dreams and making the best out of his talent.

 So who was Binyavanga? Here are a is a brief history of his well-lived life,

  1. Binyavanga was born in Nakuru
  2.  He attended Moi Primary School in Nakuru, Mangu High School in Thika, and Lenana School in Nairobi. He later studied commerce at the University of Transkei in South Africa and completed his education at the University of East Anglia in 2010.
  3. In January 2007, Binyavanga was nominated by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader but he declined the award.
  4. Author of One Day I Will Write About This Place was published in 2011.
  5. Announced he was gay in 2014
  6. In December 2016 Binyavanga announced on his Twitter profile that he was HIV positive on World Aids Day.

He was one courageous man that many looked up. Nothing stopped him from being an activist for the LGBT community in Africa.

Binyavagnga announced last year that he was to marry his long-time partner in a wedding set for early this year in South Africa but sadly he did not get to see this wish come to pass.
