Kenyan pop artist, Kagwe Mungai has been off the grid for the last couple of years, where he took the time to focus and re-build his brand.

Speaking to Kamene and guest host, 2mbili on Friday morning, the 'mbogi ya madenge' hit maker said covid-19 hit him hard and had to re-strategize to survive..

"I just wanted a bit of a breakup, sometimes these stuff can bog you down. I Wanted to take a break and focus on building," Kagwe said.

Last time I was here I was kagwe and signed under a label. So I came up with a foundation called obi Africa where we've been developing content, dealing with events and a lot of cool stuff.

Speaking on how hard Covid-19 hit him Kagwe revealed, I was supposed to be on tour in March 2020 and covid hit and the entire 6 month plan came to an end.

Kagwe has a new jam has a new jam with Nviiri the storyteller titled 'safi safi' which he says was birthed two years ago.

"Working with Nviiri was dope, I was making the beats and I put up the audio on social media and asked my fans about who we should work with.

So he came to my house and we had a bash, recorded and it sat for two years. Timing is the most important thing and this is the time." Said Kagwe Mungai.
