‘What will people say?’ Was the main response that came out of couples once a survey was carried out by Quora, on why couples tend to spend crazy amounts of cash on their wedding.

Holding a similar discussion on today’s morning show, Kamene narrated surprised she was when she received her dress’s invoice, for a wedding she was supposed to attend, which amounted to 40,000 Kenyan shillings, equivalent to her rent.

She even appeared more surprised when she learnt that the groomsmen were paying 60,000 Kenyan shillings for just their suits, mind you the bridal party had 14 people, amounting to over 700,000 Kenyan shillings spent on clothes only.

Most callers said that the Primary reason for spending so much in weddings is to show off to the society. “These big fat weddings are the outcome of the societal pressure and expectations. Beneath all the glitter and enjoyment is the endless effort that the families of bride and groom make to please the guests who are to attend the wedding,” said one caller.

Expensive weddings will often leave both the bride and the groom bankrupt or in debt after blowing it all out on expensive clothes and venues to luxurious rides.

A simple budget wedding will help both families save on unnecessary expenses and still end up happily married at the end of the day.
