Kenyan TikToker Brian Chira says that had medics given him the right directions on how to take PrEP (Pre-exposure Prophylaxis) he would be HIV negative.

The 20-year-old says he was shocked on the day he learned of his status.

Speaking during an interview on The Dobiri show, the student shared;

"I found out I had HIV after a friend of mine lied to me that he was taking me out for lunch.

There was an organization that would give lunch to people who brought others to get tested for HIV.

That was the lowest moment of my life. I was very shocked I ended up breaking down in the hospital. I did three tests and all of them turned positive."

Did he tell his family he was positive?

"My mum and my late aunt were HIV positive,but my family did not know I was positive as well.

I took it as my personal battle."

Brian says he wishes the medics handled his case better.

"I feel that it could have been prevented if the medics gave me the right directives on how to take PEP

(post-exposure prophylaxis) means taking medicine to prevent HIV after a possible exposure.

Some times I would skip days before taking the drugs."

The 20-year-old student says he is struggling as he is the one taking care of his cousins after their mum passed away.

The matter has been made worse by the fact that the grandmother does odd jobs.

"Akikosa kibarua tunakula ugali na chumvi."
