Iyanii

Kenyan recording and performing artist Iyanii revealed that he almost lost his life some years back due to hanging out with the wrong crowd.

The "Above The Head" hitmaker made the revelation during an interview with lyrical genius, video director, and executive producer King Kaka on his YouTube channel.

King Kaka currently has a new "show" on his YouTube dubbed 2nd Life Stories where he interviews people who have risen from grass to grace and gotten to experience what would be termed a second chance in life.

According to Iyanii, he was nearly shot by Kenyan police for hanging out with friends who happened to be thugs.

Speaking with King Kaka, Iyanii narrated how he and some of his colleagues had gone out partying in a reggae jam session. Everything was going on great and the vibes were immaculate, up until when it was time to leave.

Shortly after they left the party with his 7 other colleagues one of his friends went and snatched a young woman’s purse and started running.

The lady whose purse had been snatched immediately started screaming that she'd been robbed calling out the thief.

The distressed lady having noticed that Iyanii and his friends were together with the guy who'd stolen from her reasoned it was all a ruse and the whole gang had planned it.

She started screaming pointing at the calling them all out for being thieves.

Iyanii and his colleagues were left with no other choice but to start running as well.

"Kwa hiyo process ya kukimbia kumbe kulikuwa na mapolisi hapo and they had seen us with that boy and they had seen what the guy had done. So they chased after us.... Kidogo kidogo nimekimbia niko huko downtown, nikienda kutokea River Road naskia ni magunshots tu zinatufuata...." recalled the musician.

He counts himself very lucky as he was able to make it out of the whole fiasco alive, however not without a reminder of what awaited him if he didn't walk a better path.

"Niliweza kupanda gari za Dandora after kuhepa ndio nilinotice I had a very big mark on my hand. Apparently I had been shot at but luckily it grazed past me and I wasn't injured.

Although it left a nasty scar," Iyanii said as he went ahead to show King Kaka the scar from the bullet.

The artist revealed a kind lady in the matatu saved his life by covering his tracks when police officers came around the bus stop trying to sniff out Iyanii and his friends she also advised him to choose his company well.

Thereafter, the artist decided to reform his ways and those he hung around, and even though he used to go back to the reggae jam session, he opted to hang alone. Something that his colleagues didn’t like and started regarding him as a snitch.

Iyanii followed his path and lived his dream and is now a prominent Kenyan artist having done a couple of hit songs including “Good Vibes Inshallah" and "Furaha”.
