Vybez Kartel a towering figure in dancehall music has finally been released after being imprisoned back in 2014 for the murder of Clive "Lizard" Williams. 

On July 31st, 2024, Vybz Kartel was set free after the Jamaican Court of Appeals declined to retry him, citing his ill health.

Kartel didn't stop releasing songs despite being in prison for such a long time. While in prison Kartel released  50 new songs in 2016  alone. His hit song "Fever" was certified gold in June 2020.

Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Azim Palmer, was born on January 7, 1976, in Kingston, Jamaica. He developed an interest in music at a young age, influenced by artists like Will Smith, Charlie Chaplin, and Ninja Man.

Despite being expelled from Calabar High School at 16, Kartel completed his education at a technical tutoring school with high marks in subjects such as mathematics, geography, and literature.

Kartel's career began in the early 1990s with the release of his first single "Love Fat Woman" under the name Adi Banton. He later adopted the name Vybz Kartel and gained prominence in the dancehall scene.

His breakthrough came in 2003 with the release of "Gun Clown" and the album "Up 2 Di Time." Kartel continued to release hit singles like "Clarks," "Ramping Shop," and "Fever," which solidified his place in the international reggae scene.

Despite his musical success, Kartel's career has been marred by legal troubles. In 2011, he was arrested and later convicted of the murder of Clive "Lizard" Williams, resulting in a life sentence in 2014.

Although his conviction was quashed by the Privy Council in 2023, Kartel remained in custody as the legal process continued.
