Kenyan movies you should watch on Netflix this weekend

Talk about binge-watching on the weekend, the Kenyan film industry is doing its level best when it comes to consistency on the Netflix platform.

Another Kenyan romantic drama feature film, " Nafsi" has managed to get on Netflix and will premiere on November 8th, 2022.

Nafsi is a film about a lady, Aisha, and her husband struggling to conceive, but when the situation worsens, Aisha seeks assistance from her best friend to become her surrogate. This step she takes puts their friendship in jeopardy.

The film features some of the most popular casts, Catherine Kamau, Mumbi Maina, Alfred Munyua, and Alex Khayo.

Their misery is worsened as they battle wild animals and a mysterious killer who lurks in the shadows.

Disconnect:

is a romantic comedy film featuring the ever lovely Brenda Wairimu and handsome Nick Mutuma as the main cast.

The storyline is about a group of singletons stumbling through the wild dating scene in Nairobi, as two friends wonder if their relationship is more than platonic.

Streaming giant Netflix has announced its first Kenyan-licensed branded series, Country Queen, that will begin streaming from Friday July 15, 2022.

Country Queen: 

Country Queen is a family drama series that tells the story of ordinary Kenyans fighting against a corporate power that threatens to destroy their homes and lives.

It features Nini Wacera, Blessing Lung'aho, and Melissa Kiplagat.

The plot focuses on a Nairobi event planner who returns to her village after 10 years, where she confronts her past — and a mining company that threatens to destroy her home. Also, child abuse has been highlighted here.

Nairobi Half-Life: 

The 2012 Kenyan drama film directed by David "Tosh" Gitonga, starring Joseph Wairimu, Olwenya Maina, Shix Kapyenga, Mugambi Nthiga, was selected as the Kenyan entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards but did not make the final shortlist.

The film was seen as a trailblazer that dared expose some of the most sinister and seedy sides of crime in the city.

It was praised for giving a realistic portrayal of the painful struggle to survive in Nairobi.

The film celebrated its 10th anniversary, on 22nd October 2022, after being debuted on Netflix.

The Captain Of Nakara: 

This is a 2012 comedy film, starring Joel Otukho and Lucy Wangui, centers around a small-time thug recently released from prison.

The charming con continues his deceptive ways of pretending to be a successful man. He tries hiding his past to marry the woman of his dreams, who is a preacher’s daughter.

Poacher: 

Poacher is a crime, thriller, and social issue-based short film directed by Tom Whitworth, starring Brian Ogola and Davina Leonard.

It tells the story of a daring farmer who runs into trouble after stealing illicit ivory from a group of international terrorists and must now elude them to survive.

The film seeks to highlight the significant international issue of the illegal ivory trade by addressing the plight of Africa's endangered elephant population
