Fast-rising social media platform, TikTok has unveiled a one-hour watch hour time limit for users under the age of 18.

The company aims at managing the screen time of the kids.

Comac Keenan, head of trust and safety at TikTok, shared the update today with the company's newsroom.

Now, each account owned by a user under the age of 18 will be automatically assigned to a 60-minute daily screen time limit.

The user will be prompted to type a passcode in order to continue watching after the 60-minute time limit has been reached.

According to Keenan, TikTok believes that digital experiences should offer joy and play a positive part in how people express themselves.

"In light of this, TikTok is working to provide more customizable features to the Screen Time Tool. New default settings for teen accounts and the expansion of family pairing with stronger parental restrictions"

In 2020 TikTok unveiled a family feature in hopes of empowering families.

TikTok has also announced that it will be adding 3 new features to the family pairing feature.

Firstly, families will now be able to tailor daily time limitations on the app.

Caregivers can now fit screen time with school schedules, breaks, or family trips.

Second, with the upgrade, parents will be able to see how frequently their child has used the TikTok app.

A thorough breakdown of the overall amount of time spent using the app throughout the day and night will be provided for the parent to see.

The third update will have an option for parents to mute notifications.

Currently, users aged 13 to 15 are exempted from receiving push notifications after 9 pm, while those ages 16 to 17 are exempted from receiving them after 10 pm.

TikTok has been previously banned by countries based on the accusations that it exposes the youth to sexual content and is highly addictive.
