Award-winning comedian Eric Omondi has raised close to half a million Kenyan shillings for a Mathare resident who went viral after he was arrested while confronting the police.

The man identified as Victor Juma in videos making rounds online could be heard saying he'd left his house literally while still wearing slippers after his young child collapsed from the effects of tear gas being lobbied around their area.

Juma was arrested by a plainclothes policeman while he was screaming at the police for hurting his child.

Upon coming across the story, Eric Omondi called upon his over 4.2 million followers to join him in a fundraiser for Juma and his young family. A move that yielded good fruits as the dad is now Sh.400,00 richer.

On his Instagram page, he shared a screenshot indicating some of the money they had received from his online fundraiser.

The latest screenshot as of 00:15 am read Sh.280,327. It's not clear if people kept on sending in donations or the soon-to-be dad topped up the rest of the money to hit Sh.400,000.

Captioning the post the comedian wrote, "THANK YOU TO Everyone who sent Anything Yesterday🙏🙏🙏

We managed to Raise Ksh 400,000 for Victor Juma and His young family. The Money will go towards. 1. Medical Bills for him and his daughter. 2. He will open an Exhibition shop for Clothes and Shoes. 3. His wife will start a small hotel business. 4. Rent For one year 5. School Fees for two Years for the Daughter. 6. I will Advertise his businesses for free,"

Before this the soon to be dad had visited Juma in prison and promised to help him get out as well as support him and his family once he was released from custody.

On July 20th,  Eric shared a video of him meeting up with Juma who seemed unperturbed even after spending nights in police custody. The dad had an aura of calmness around him as he chatted up with the funny man.

"Finally met Victor Juma, the guy who was arrested while crying for his child who was teargassed in Mathare.

We are planning to get him out and help him secure a job," said Eric who had brought him goodies like milk, soda and bread during the visit.
