It was a somber night for the Nigerian music industry as none of their Grammy nominees secured an award.

Renowned superstars such as Davido, Burna Boy, Olamide, Asake, and Ayra Starr were among the nominees for the 2024 Grammy Awards.

In an unexpected twist, these prominent Nigerian artists did not emerge victorious in any of their nominated categories.

The South African musician Tyla claimed victory over the Nigerian contenders, securing the award for her hit song "Water."

The awards ceremony took place on Sunday during the pre-show of the 2024 Grammy Awards.

Burna Boy, the winner of the 2021 Grammy Award, received four nominations for Best Melodic Rap Performance ("Sitting on Top of the World" with 21 Savage), Best Global Music Performance ("Alone"), Best African Music Performance ("City Boys"), and Best Global Music Album ("I Told Them").

However, Burna Boy did not secure a win in any of these categories, losing to Tyla's "Water," 'Pashto' by Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Zakir Hussain featuring Rakesh Chaurasia, Shakti's 'The Moment,' and Lil Durk's 'All My Life' featuring J Cole, respectively.

Davido, also known as David Adeleke, missed out on all three of his nominations. He was nominated for Best Global Album ("Timeless"), Best African Performance ("Unavailable"), and Best Global Music Performance ("Feel"). Unfortunately, he lost to 'Pashto,' by Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Zakir Hussain featuring Rakesh Chaurasia and Shakti’s 'The Moment' in the respective categories.

Both Asake (Ahmed Ololade) and Olamide (Olamide Adedeji) saw their Amapiano project miss out on the award for Best African Music Performance.

Ayra Starr's "Rush" also fell short of winning despite being nominated in the inaugural Best Music Performance category.
