Kim Kardashian stepped out on this year's Met Gala wearing an iconic dress by Marilyn Monroe.

Speaking on 'Today' the reality TV star said that she was happy to have had the opportunity to wear the dress.

"I respect her and understand how much this dress means to American history."

She went on to say it was such a process to wear that dress.

"I had to change. I showed up to the red carpet in a robe and slippers and put the dress on, on bottom of the carpet and went up the stairs. I probably had it on for three minutes...four minutes and changed at the top of the carpet."

She also shut down the rumours that she had ruined the dress;

"No, we worked together so well, there was gloves that put it on me."

In a statement, Ripley’s executive Amanda Joiner, vice president of publishing and licensing had also denied the claims that Kim had damaged the dress.

"...a number of the seams are pulled and worn. This is not surprising given how delicate the material is. There is puckering at the back by the hooks and eyes."

“From the bottom of the Met steps, where Kim got into the dress, to the top where it was returned, the dress was in the same condition it started in."

Kim lost 9 Kgs to fit into the dress. She said she changed her lifestyle as she had to cut on sugars and fast foods.

"Afterwards I continued to eat really healthy. I'm down 21 lbs. I'm not trying to lose any more weight but I have more energy than ever."

According to reports, Kim Kardashian borrowed the dress from Ripley's Orlando and didn't pay for it but made donations to charity on behalf of the company.

"The dress could have been locked away in a private collection, unable to tell its story...Instead, it has toured multiple Ripley's attractions around the world and has been introduced to a new generation thanks to this Met Gala moment."
