Over the week, I noticed there is quite a funny little mild flu going around.

It baffled me since the weather has been more than pleasant and sunny but then again, the weather isn't entirely responsible for everything.

Seeing a few of my colleague's struggles, I decided to spin this little article for anyone else out there who might have this little bug going around and is not a huge fan of hospitals or medicine.

Note: There are plenty of home remedies that can alleviate your symptoms and get you back to normal.

However, if you still feel sick after a few weeks, make sure to book an appointment with a doctor as soon as possible.

Below are a few home remedies that ought to help out in a jiffy:

1) Ginger

After centuries, there is finally scientific proof of the curative properties of ginger roots. A few slices of raw ginger root in boiling water help soothe a cough or sore throat.

Research suggests that it can also ward off the feelings of nausea that so often accompany the flu.

2) Vitamin C

Adding freshly squeezed lemon juice to hot tea with honey may reduce phlegm when you’re sick.

As well as drinking hot or cold lemonade.

While these drinks may not clear up your cold entirely, they can help reduce the duration of your cold.

Getting enough vitamin C can help relieve upper respiratory tract infections.

3) Probiotics

These are “friendly” bacteria and yeast that are found in your body, some foods, and supplements.

They help keep your gut and immune system healthy, and probiotics may reduce your chance of getting sick with an upper respiratory infection.

4) Salt Water

Gargling with salt water may help prevent upper respiratory infections.

It may also decrease the severity of cold symptoms. For example, it may ease sore throat pain and nasal congestion.

5) Beetroot juice

Because beetroot juice is high in dietary nitrate, it increases the body’s production of nitric oxide, which helps protect you against respiratory infections.
