Fans have gone to extraordinary lengths to show their love and support for their favorite artists.

Others have even gone to extremes. Here are some outrageous things fans have done to show their appreciation for their favorite artists:

  • Camping out for days to get tickets

Many fans have camped out for days in front of venues or ticket outlets in order to be the first in line to get tickets to their favorite artist's shows. In 2015, Taylor Swift's fans camped out for several days outside of the Staples Center in Los Angeles to get tickets to her upcoming 1989 World Tour.

  • Tattooing their favorite artist's name or lyrics on their body

Fans have permanently inked their favorite artist's name, album title, or even lyrics on their skin as a sign of devotion. This is the most popular way of fans to show love to their artists.

For instance, a fan has tattooed his favorite songs of Nigerian singer Davido on his back. 

 

In the states, a number of people have been tattooed by their fans like Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Harry Style, Drake, Lil Wayne, and Tupac.

In 2014, a fan of Beyoncé got a tattoo of the singer's famous "Single Ladies" hand gesture on her finger.

In Kenya we have also seen fans tattoo their favorite media personalities, recently a fan tattooed the face of content creator Mungai Eve on his chest.

  • Throwing out their inner wear on stage 

It's not uncommon for fans to throw their innerwear on stage during a concert as a way of showing their appreciation.

In 2012, Justin Bieber tweeted a photo of a pair of leopard print panties that were thrown on stage during one of his shows.

 

Also in 2019 during the Tusker October Fest that happened in Kenya at Ngong Racecourse, a couple of fans threw their bras to Bien of the band  boy group SautiSol

  • Sending unusual gifts

Fans have sent their favorite artists everything from bizarre artwork to live animals, as a token of their love.

For instance, In 2016, a 31-year-old man was placed on probation for harassing Ariana Grande by sending her an odd assortment of items which were an ankle bracelet, dog and cat-themed calendars, and even a rock. In 2014, she was also mailed a pumpkin in form of a gift. 

  • Buying outrageous items at auctions

Fans have spent thousands of dollars on bizarre items at auctions. In 2012, Lady Gaga auctioned off a costume she wore in her "Born This Way" music video for over $133,000 ( KSh  17,642,450).

Another outrageous buy was in 2010, a fan bought a rhinestone-encrusted glove worn by Michael Jackson for $350,000 (KSh 46,427,500) at an auction.

  • Stalking their favorite artists

In some extreme cases, fans have gone to great lengths to track down and follow their favourite artists often crossing the line into stalking.

For instance, recently In March 2023, Billie Eilish filed a court restraining order for a man who kept on reappearing at her home declaring the love he has for her.
