A campaign to stop spoilers ruining Avengers: Endgame failed to help one bunch of fans watching the three-hour epic in Thailand.

Hundreds of fans were left drenched after fire sprinklers on the ceiling began to shower moviegoers with an hour remaining of the film in Ratchaburi.

Soaked audiences left without knowing the ending to the 22-film saga as they were ushered out of the venue.

Theater workers blamed sprinklers which were triggered by a heat wave sweeping across the nation, causing temperatures to hit 40c.

Staff say the heat made the water system's pipes and valves expand, causing the sensors to react.

Meanwhile disappointed customers were offered free tickets to watch the film again.

Avengers fan Wittawat Hanvanich, 30, said that he was disappointed but that he would return to find out the ending.

'I'm disappointed by what happened. The cinema should learn to control their water systems. But they dealt with the situation and we can go back to see the film again.

I was enjoying watching Avengers. There was still an hour until the end. I don't know what happened so I'll need to find the time to visit again.'

Avengers: Endgame has grossed $1.2 billion worldwide since it's debut on April 26, smashing records set by the previous installment Avengers: Infinity War.

Stars of the film such as Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson backed an online campaign '#dontspoilendgame' after the film was leaked online ahead of its highly anticipated release.
