Camila Cabello is opening up about why she chose to publicly stand up for her friend Taylor Swift in her recent war of words with music manager Scooter Braun.
The Señorita singer spoke to Variety in its Power of Young Hollywood issue, published on Tuesday, and explained she feels Swift got 'f**ked over' in the master sale.
'She is my friend' Cabello, 22, says, adding, 'And someone in her position — which is, like, on another level — I can't imagine how many times she's been let down by people, or gotten disappointed by friends who were just using her, or people who just wanted to be friends with Taylor Swift or whatever.
'I’m happy to be there for her as a person. Like, "Even when it’s not popular, I've got you. I’m, like, your real friend."
'With the Scooter thing, I feel her frustration. An artist of her caliber just getting f*cked over like that and not being able to have her masters? That sucks. When you think about how artists have to slave to make these things, and then you don’t own them, that is kind of a ridiculous concept.'
In June Taylor spoke out about how distressing it was for her to find out Braun had acquired the singer's master recordings from her first six albums through his purchase of her former label Big Machine Records from Scott Borchetta.
The Shake It Off hitmaker called it her 'worst-case scenario' and accused Braun of bullying.
At the time the Havana singer said in support of Swift: 'I don’t know a lot about what’s going on but I will say I really believe artists should own their own life’s work.'
Meanwhile, Cabello also reflected on her relationship with her former Fifth Harmony bandmates who she split from in December 2016, revealing they don't keep in touch.
'[It’s] not because there's any animosity left — just the courses of our lives have drifted. But if I saw any of them at an awards show, I would say hi and it would be totally cool.
