Singer Chris Brown is being investigated for misdemeanor battery and theft at a Las Vegas hotel room in an alleged incident that occurred after a woman tried to take his photo, police said Saturday.
Brown, 26, has not been arrested but is considered a suspect, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release.
Police received a report of battery in a suite at Palms Casino Resort at about 10:20 a.m., police said.
When they arrived at the hotel, they found a woman who seemed to have minor injuries “as a result of battery,” the statement said.
The woman had attempted to take a picture of Brown during a party at the hotel, but “was alleged to have been battered by Brown, who at the same time took her cell phone.”
Brown’s publicist denied the claims.
The woman, who was not identified, was ejected from the party by private security, police said, and after a verbal altercation and disturbance in the hallway she was kicked out of the hotel by hotel security. She returned and reported the alleged battery and theft to the hotel.
Brown had already left by the time detectives arrived, police said.
“A crime report has been taken for misdemeanor theft and misdemeanor battery listing Mr. Brown as a suspect,” police said.
Brown’s publicist, Nicole Perna, said in an email Saturday night that the alleged victim’s statements are “unequivocally untrue” and that she was escorted out of the private party for “being disruptive and out of control.”
“Her claim that she had her phone in her possession inside the after party and was able to take a photo causing an altercation with Chris Brown is a complete fabrication,” Perna said.
Brown was in Los Angeles Saturday night as planned Perna said. She said Brown’s attorney has contacted Las Vegas police.
