Research released by TIFA and KKrew indicates that high schoolers have access to pornographic material.

The research was conducted between January 25 and April 3, in seven secondary schools within Nairobi and Kiambu Counties.

The sample included students from Form 3 and Form 4.

The one thing that struck out from the research was the fact that teenagers want to really communicate with their parents but they cannot.

According to the research, while 28 per cent of the students would tell their parents how much they loved them given a chance, 3 per cent wish their parents would teach them about sex and relationships.

Two per cent want their parents to support them in whatever way is possible.

Some of the topics they would like to broach with their parents include

  1. Teach me about sex.
  2. I abuse drugs.
  3. I am engaging in sex.
  4. Allow me to be in a relationship.
  5. Warn my sister against forcing me to have sex with her.
  6. My neighbour tried grabbing me to have sex.

Here are some of the topics.

Besides that, the research sought to find out which of the following activities are you likely to be involved in during the school holiday?

This love… Video of Diamond and Tanasha making out amid pregnancy rumours

Majority of the students stay at home during the holidays (70%), followed by club/drink alcohol/drugs (67%), while those who will engage in religious activities are 66%.

As for the source of information for sex? The media is the main source of
information about sex with internet (films/videos) being top
of the list.

Half the students have had a discussion on sexually related matters at least once in the past 12months. Female students are seen to have discussed more than males.

The students mostly have discussions with their parents (either father, mother or both).

Also, there is a graph showing the statistics of those who have watched pornography.

More than half the students have watched pornographic content with 62% being male students and 37% female.

The research report doesn’t break it down to give more information on where they watch it, is on phone, TV, laptop?

And how they accessed the pornography.

Inside a teenagers mind! The cars, drinks, university and sport they like

It turns out that Male students(60%) are more knowledgeable about contraceptives compared to female students (47%).

Majority of the teenagers have an idea what safe sex is, although 10% believe it is sex between married people and some do not know(6%).
