The 3rd edition of the All Africa Music Awards 2016 (AFRIMA) went down on Sunday, November 6 at Lagos, Nigeria. Not to be confused with African Musik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA).

The awards saw artistes and performers from all parts of Africa, as they came to celebrate music, receive their awards and basically show support for the African music industry.

Before the award night, the AFRIMA organizers took several artistes on a tour around Nigeria, with Avril representing Kenya, as a Best Female, East Africa nominee.

Other than Avril, Kenya had also received other nominations, which included; Best Artiste/Duo/Group In African Reggae, Ragga & Dancehall - Dufla Diligon ft Cindy Sanyu, Album of the Year - Sauti Sol, Best Artiste/Duo/Group In African Rock - Kanyeki, Best African Group - Sauti Sol, Best Female Artiste in Inspirational - Mercy Masika and Evelyn Wanjiru, Best Male Artiste in African Inspirational - Denno Ft Bahati in Story Yangu and African Fans Favourite - Nyashinski.

Most of the nominations were dominated by Nigerian and South Africa artistes and sadly, none of the Kenyans nominated walked away with any award, considering we have such talent.

Diamond Platnumz represented East Africa by scooping two awards; "Best Male East Africa" and "Song Of The Year" for his hit song Utanipenda, from the music award ceremony, as well as thrilling the crowd there.

New Nigeria artiste, Falz best known for his Soft Work hit took home the "Revelation of the Year’ while Wizkid won "Artist of the Year" and still scooped "Best African Act" at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

Uganda's Cindy Sanyu won "Best Female East Africa" as South Africa's Black Coffee scooped the Best Male South Africa award. Nigeria's star boy, Flavour was not left behind as he won the Best Male West Africa award.
