Four days ago, Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko hosted fast rising gengetone group, Mbogi Genje.

In their meeting, Sonko who's goal is to nurture local artists, promised to hold the Umoja based group's by empowering them with a new MacBook Pro laptop.

The laptop would come in handy while editing their work. The governor also vowed to set up a fully equipped recording studio for them. Talk of lady luck smiling on them!

On Tuesday, the governor delivered on his promise as his officials handed the MacBook Pro to the Kidungi hitmakers.

Taking to his socials, Sonko wrote,

In keeping with my commitment to support our artists and nurture talent in Nairobi especially during the hard times occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic, today I'm delivering the promise I made to Mbogi Genje Music Group from Umoja. Empowering them with a brand New MacBook Pro which they will be using to edit their work before setting up a fully equipped recording studio for them. The group currently has written 10 new songs, and I will support the production of all them.

Sonko said that his main dream is to propel Kenyan youth to have a place at the global arena, which will comfortably compete with our Bongo neighbors.

He added,

To ensure sustainability, I will facilitate them to establish an operating base in their neighbourhood, while utilizing my networks to help them secure corporate and private gigs where they will be earning. For a long term solution, my administration will sponsor a Talent Incubation and Development Bill to enable the County set aside funds to support the diverse talents across Nairobi.

With many coming to a conclusion that gengetone is slowly dying, we hope that this gift will help boost the group's spirits and bless us with new hits.
