Just like in Kenya, many artists in Tanzania are increasingly trying their luck in politics.
In 2015, Bongo rapper, Joseph Haule popularly known as professor Jay was elected into parliament giving many youths and artists that it truly can be done.
However, one term later, the rap professor was dumped out of parliament and failed in his bid to be re-elected as Makumi MP.
According to Bongo five, Jay was floored by Dennis Lazaro in a process which saw less than 50% of registered voters fail to turn up on 28th October general elections.
Lazaro garnered 31,411 votes against Jay's 17,375 votes.
Elsewhere, while one musician was shown the door, another was welcomed with open arms.
This is after Mwana Fa who's real name is Hamis Mwinjuma garnered 47,578 votes to win Muheza parliamentary seat.
It is a commiseration to Jay and a huge congratulation to Mwana Fa. Whether these two will continue to bless our ears and souls with their music remains unknown.
