Betting, EPL, and World Teachers’ Day top Google October search trends in Kenya
Google search trends in Kenya show that betting and the English Premier League (EPL) largely preoccupied Kenyans in October 2020.
World Teachers’ Day also captured the interest of Kenyans and featured in October trending searches. Rhino Kaboom and Othuol Othuol were among the top trending personalities searched in October.
The October search trends show betting was trending at number one among Kenyans despite government efforts to streamline the industry by revoking the licenses of a number of online betting firms. Betting sites Betika, Odibet, Livescore, and Forebet were among Kenya’s trending Search queries.
Queries on the English Premier League came second. The English Premier League table, English Premier League results, Arsenal news, Chelsea news, and Manchester United featured among the search queries, with Manchester United vs Chelsea and Everton vs Liverpool among others as the most searched fixtures.
World Teachers’ Day came third in October trending searches. World Teachers Day is marked to promote, celebrate progress, and reflect on ways to counter challenges of the teaching profession. Maria, the local program on Citizen TV, was the fourth trending search query of the month.
Schools reopening was the fifth most searched query in October 2020. Universities and colleges which were closed in March due to COVID-19 started a phased re-opening in October. Finalists in secondary and primary schools have also resumed classes to prepare for national exams scheduled for March next year.
The sixth and seventh trending searches of the month were Rhino Kaboom and Othuol Othuol.
Comedian Othuol Othuol succumbed to a brain tumor on 11 October at the Kenyatta National Hospital and Kalenjin musical Rhino Kaboom was involved in a fatal road accident in Baringo.
The London Marathon which took place on 4 October was the eighth trending query and the Jerusalema dance came ninth in the month’s trending searches. The tenth trending query was COVID-19 cases Kenya as Kenya experienced a new surge of COVID-19 numbers.
In the trending personalities category, Donald Trump was the third trending query after Rhino Kaboom and Othuol Othuol. The fourth trending personality was Ghanaian footballer Thomas Partey who plays as a midfielder for Arsenal. H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta was the fifth trending personality of the month.
