It's Alcohol Awareness Week which runs from 16-22 November.

Basically this week the world raises awareness on alcohol and mental health. This year, many people have resorted to drinking alcohol because of the tough times we are facing and all the free time we have.

Drinking is not being discouraged but when excessively done, it becomes a problem and that is what the world is aiming to sensitize people about.

In that line, a lot of celebrities have benefited from such awareness and are now survivors of alcoholism.

Here is a list of famous people who have successfully fought the battle.

1. Nana Gecaga: She spoke about her dependency on alcohol saying

“Well it was 24 beers that’s a crate a day and a half a bottle or full bottle of liquor. Very vicious circle, we all have challenges, we all have issues that we face, never judge a book by its cover. The one thing I can actually say to them is, tomorrow is another day and try to live. Or get to that day and never be ashamed or too proud to ask for support. Kenya has a lot of support and use it.” She once said

2. Oliver Mathenge

“In between the day in the office, I would go out to have a few shots of whatever drink I thought my system needed. Some Fridays, drinking would start as early as midday and would sometime go on until Sunday (Yes, I would spend two days in bars like that’s all about life). I was a slave.” He once said.

3. Ben Affleck

He went to rehab for the first time in 2001 and has severally called the  addiction “a lifelong and difficult struggle.” Affleck said on social media, “If you have a problem, getting help is a sign of courage, not weakness or failure.”

4. Bradly Cooper

6. Daniel Radcliffe aka Harry Potter

In previous interviews, he has opened up saying his sudden fame and wealth came with problems. He drank a lot during filming of the last three Potter films, and finally realized it was something he couldn’t control. He says he quit after the last film wrapped and continues to work on his recovery.
