Diamond has been nominated in the 2021 BET Awards as the only East African artist under the category, Best International Act.
This nomination started as a good thing, so many were happy for the singer up until last week when things just took a complete turn and now even his fellow Tanzanian's are not supporting him.
There is a petition doing rounds to stop Diamond from being part of the nomination list. The allegations brought forth are that the WCB President ‘actively and publicly supported deceased Magufuli’s regime.’
The petitioners claim that Chibu Dang’ote remained silent when fellow Tanzanian artists were imprisoned and abducted in 2017-2018 over video clips deemed obscene by the authorities.
In as much as Tanzanians are against him, he has had the support of his fellow artistes including Bahati, Eric Omondi and now, Sauti Sol.
Others who have been named in the Best International Act category include; Aya Nakamura (France), Burna Boy (Nigeria) Emicida (Brazil), Headie One (UK), Wizkid (Nigeria), Young T & Bugsey (UK) and Youssoupha (France).
Kenyan Band Sauti Sol have congratulated the WCB boss and asked their fans to help in voting so that Diamond can win the award.
Through their social media handles, Sauti Sol wrote;
"Congrats on your nomination bro! Let's get it @diamondplatnumz 👏🏿 🎊 #BestInternationalAct 🏆VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!"
