Most times we suggest great series and movies to our friends and forget to suggest those that are locally produced hence doing an injustice to our local actors.

 

Have you watched Uradi? Singleish or even baba twins? Well the local production houses are doing us proud and giving us award winning  binge worthy shows that are set to take the world by storm.

I have listed a number of some of the locally produced shows that you should binge watch before January comes to an end.

1. Uradi

“Uradi”, is a feature-length film revolving around a young man who comes from a local village in Nyahururu to Nairobi or higher education.

Drama soon begins to unfold as peer pressure pushes the desire of high life in him. To make ends meet he is forced into petty crime not knowing that the allure of quick money is slowly landing him into the dangerous territories of radicalization and terrorism.

2. Baba Twins

Directed by Lawrence Murage and produced by Lucy Mwangi (Njoro wa Uba, Varshita, Auntie Boss), this coming-of-age comedy drama follows Tony and Wamz, a young couple who are thrown into the middle of raising twins just when their careers are beginning to take off.

Adapted from the hit South African series Unmarried, Single-ish follows the lives of three women in Nairobi – Sintamei, Mariah and Rebecca – as they deal with the challenges that marriage, relationships, and their careers throw at them.

4. Medicine man

MEDICINE MAN is about a lone Doctor overcoming the odds to redeem the Community he so loves, that is deeply shackled by Witchcraft and enslaved by the power of a Warlock.

5. The More Things Change

It boasts the unique narrative of looking back into Kenya’s political past, and then exploring the present, as well as imagining an exciting potential speculative future, to explore resistance by individuals and communities. Co-directed by Collective members Akati Khasiani and Mars Maasai, the film explores what happens when an ordinary girl takes on a powerful adversary at great personal cost.

6. 'This Thing Called Marriage'

This Thing Called Marriage' is a web series by Chichi Seii and Nick Ndeda which also stars the two talented creatives.

The series is based on "Milele" a song by actress and singer Seii.

She has previously played a supporting role in the hit Netflix series "Sense8" and also played the wife of the president in  the local series "State House" directed by Wanuri Kahiu.
