If you have been to Rongai, Ngong or Karen, you’ve probably used a nganya as your mode of transport.

A nganya is a type of a public vehicle bus with modified vehicle body parts, unreal sound machines and flawless artworks that distinguishes the buses from ‘normal’ PSV operators.

What makes a nganya ride a unique experience for its passengers is generally the music playing through the huge speakers installed in the ride.

From a survey I conducted, most nganya users prefer the mode of transport because of the loud music that helps them disconnect from the world and just vibe with the hits.

Besides music, the outstanding artwork on those machines also contributes in creating a worthy ride experience for its passengers.

Art is a form of expression and from the different ideas painted on the bodies of the nganya’s, passengers can tell different vibes from each unique ride, for example, when an art portrays biggie or 2Pac, the nganya is definitely playing music from the 90’s artists.

As a frequent Nganya user, I personally enjoy the atmosphere even from my fellow passengers as they are friendly and socially ok for casual conversations. Despite a few hiccups from rude touts, I definitely enjoy the ambience while riding to my destination.
