Veteran media personality Leonard Mambo Mbotela is set to be sworn in today by Chief Justice Martha Koome as a board member of the National Heroes Council.
The swearing-in is taking place at the Supreme Court Building.
Leonard is a voice that most grew up listening to, 'Je huu ni Ungwana?' being a fav.
Mambo Mbotela was appointed by the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture, and Heritage Amina Mohamed, with effect from 5th August.
The appointment notice read,
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 4 (3) of the Kenya Heroes Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage appoints Leonard Mambo Mbotela as a member of the National Heroes Council, for a period of three years with effect from the 5th August 2022.”
The council's functions include formulating and implementing a policy relating to national heroes, identifying and recommending national heroes, and enforcing sanctions and penalties with respect to disgraced national heroes.
The law provides that in the exercise of its functions, the Council shall have regard for patriotism, national unity, the rule of law, sharing and devolution of power as well as human dignity, equity, social justice, and inclusiveness.
