Wetang'ula's PA wins Bungoma senatorial seat

Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula's longest-serving personal assistant David Wafula Wakoli has been declared the winner of the Bungoma senatorial seat.

He was declared the winner after getting 66,032 votes, followed by  UDA’s Mwambu Mabonga second with 45,907 votes as Azimio’s Wafula Wamunyinyi came third with 20,519 votes.

Wakoli vowed to emulate his predecessor  who he says was ranked best senator for proposing bills, debating motions and uniting senators.

The seat had attracted 11 contestants.

They are Elias Barasa, Mwambu Mabonga (UDA), Enoch Makokha, Julius Masinde, Wekesa Munoko, Simiyu Busolo, Wafula Wakoli ( Ford Kenya), Wafula Wamunyinyi (DAP-K), Wafula Wanjala, Barasa Wanyonyi and Robert Sifuna (The Roots party).

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had gazetted December 8, 2022, as the date for the Bungoma Senate by-election and the other wards

This is after officeholder, Wetang'ula was elected Speaker of the National Assembly on September 8, 2022.

The by-election went well on Thursday despite a few tear gas incidents that were reported to the police.
