Omondi Lewis who scored 431 marks

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has said that the county of Kakamega will sponsor secondary education for KCPE top candidate Lewis Otieno.

"The County Government of Kakamega will sponsor the top student, Otieno Lewis Omondi Glen, through his secondary education," he said on Wednesday.

His remarks follow the release of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, where Omondi emerged as the top student alongside Robinson Fwaro.

The two students are from schools in the Western region and they both scored 431 marks.

The KCPE exam results were announced by Education CS Ezekiel Machogu.

Some 1,244,188 candidates were registered for the examination.

Machogu said that candidates will be allowed to start their secondary school journey as they have all qualified to be admitted to Form One.

The CS said that the class of 2022 put out a spirited academic campaign that defied the triple challenge of a general election, Covid-19 and shortened school calendars.

He added that the government plans to place the candidates in secondary schools as soon as possible to give parents adequate time to prepare them for admission to Form One.

The CS said that Form One selection exercise will be concluded on January 16.

Of the KCPE candidates, 620,965 (50.32%) were boys while 612,887 (49.67%) were girls.

The CS said that it is an indication that the country has achieved gender parity at the primary school level.
