Azimio leader Raila Odinga has weighed in following the arrested and arraignment of Comedian Eric Omondi and 17 others.

Speaking at the first Azimio National Prayer meeting at Jevanjee Gardens Odinga asked the government to leave Omondi and his colleagues alone.

He argued that the group staged peaceful demonstrations and therefore there was no need for the arrest.

The former Prime Minister said police have a responsibility of escorting Kenyans who decide to take part in peaceful demonstrations.

“Kijana Eric Omondi na wenzake walifika kwa Bubnge kutetea haki ya wakenya.

Tunataka Bwana Ruto na watu yake wafundishwe eti peaceful demonstrations is legal.

Watu wetu wakifanya maandamano, polisi wawasindikize kuhakikisha wako na usalama. Hiyo ni serikali iliyostaarika lakini hawa, siku yao inakuja. Mkenya yeyote asitishwe,” Raila Odinga said.

At the same time, Odinga called upon the President William Ruto’s government to refrain from frustrating Lawy Danstan Omari.

This comes after DCI opened investigations into the alleged home raid at the former Interior CS.

DCI summoned Omari, Matiang'i's lawyer whom they believe is connected to the offence or has information that can assist in investigations.

"The other day, they were on Matiang'i, now it is lawyer Danstan Omari. DCI has summoned him tomorrow for investigations, he is just a lawyer doing his job,"

"I want to tell you to leave Matiang'i and Omari alone,” he said.
