DJ Fatxo has won the Mugithi Artist Of The Year East Africa award in E360 Awards 4th edition 2022/23.

Fatxo was nominated in February and asked his fans to vote for him.

Sarafina Salim won the female Mugiithi artist of the year.

The award comes amidst police push to exhume Jeff Mwathi's body for further investigation this week on Friday.

The popular Kikuyu musician got into controversy when Jeff died in his apartment in February this year.

Jeff Mwathi's mother Hanna Wacuka has hopes her son will get justice if his body will be exhumed.

Speaking to Mpasho's writer Elizabeth Ngigi, the mother of two said she has not been informed when the body will be exhumed.

She also denied rumors doing rounds on social media that her son's grave is guarded.

"If we will get justice by exhuming his body, I am at peace with that. I feel okay since even if he is not exhumed, we still don't have him. There is nobody guarding my son's grave. We are the ones doing that. We are hopeful to God that my son will get justice so that his soul can rest," she said.

Jeff Mwathi died in February and his body was buried one week after.

She said the family were told investigations would be done even when he is buried.

"After he died, we reported everything. Took an OB, and the authorities told us to proceed with burial arrangements. They told us that the police will continue with their investigations even after he is buried since we had already done the postmortem."

Inspector General of police Japhet Koome on Sunday said they have found gaps in the incident and hence need to exhume the body to help their probe.

He said police are doing thorough investigations to ensure justice in the case.
