American rapper and singer Doja Cat has revealed that she will be shifting gears after years of dabbling in pop music.
The Grammy award-winning songwriter took to Twitter to inform her fans that she will no longer be releasing pop music, writing, "No more pop."
She also responded to critics who claimed that the majority of her rap verses are corny by saying that she is not competing with anyone and is simply doing what she enjoys which is making music.
“I also agree with everyone who said the majority of my rap verses are mid and corny. I know they are. I wasn’t trying to prove anything; I just enjoy making music."
Doja indicated that she is tired of naysayers telling her that she cannot do rap music, so she is going to prove them wrong because making pop music no longer excites her.
"I’m getting tired of hearing y'all say that I can’t, so I will. Pop isn’t exciting to me anymore. I don’t wanna make it.”
In an interview with Variety, Doja Cat admitted that her new songs are heading in a more masculine direction. "I know that I’ve done a lot of pink and soft things, a lot of pop and glittery sounds,” she said. “But for this next era, I’m going in a more masculine direction.”
Doja is known for unconventionally doing her endeavors, Last year, she went on Instagram Live to reveal that she had shaved her entire head, and as if that was not she went on and shaved her eyebrows.
The singer stated that she does not believe she is supposed to have hair and that shaving her hair positively influenced her life.
“I don’t like having hair.
I never liked having hair. I cannot tell you one time since the beginning of my life that I’ve ever been like, ‘This is cool.’ I just do not like to have hair,” she said.
