Diamond Platnumz named most streamed African artist on YouTube

Tanzanian award-winning Bongo star Diamond Platnumz has set yet another record after being ranked the most streamed artiste ever on YouTube in the whole of Sub-Saharan Africa.

A across check done by this writer, the "Zuwena" hitmaker is the most streamed African artiste on YouTube after having garnered over 2.14 billion streams since joining the streaming service in 2011.

The father of 4 was followed closely by Nigeria's self-proclaimed African Giant Burna Boy who had over 2.05 billion streams.

The top 10 list afterwards is dominated by Nigerian artists with Congolese artist Fally Ipupa breaking the monotony. Sadly, no other East African artists made it to the top 10.

Coming in hot at number 3 is yet another Nigerian artist, "Essence" hit maker Wizkid who has over 1.67 billion streams followed by Congolese superstar Fally Ipupa who has over 1.40 billion streams.

In fifth place is Nigeria’s Davido with over 1.29 billion streams followed by his counterpart Ckay who has over 1.15 billion streams.

Flavour comes in seventh position with over 1.10 billion streams closely followed by Psquare with over 1.09.

22-year-old Rema clinches the ninth position after amassing over 1.06 billion streams and closing the list is Nigerian artist Tekno who has over 964 million streams.

As the only East African artiste on the list, Diamond is truly Simba as he claims.

Born Naseeb Abdul, the 33-year-old became the first Africa-based artiste to reach a combined total of one billion views on YouTube.

Having started his music career at a young age and while doing odd jobs, Diamond has made a name and a huge brand for himself over the years. He has received multiple awards on top of numerous endorsements and brand ambassadorial roles.
