BBC officially welcomes Waihiga Mwaura to their team

British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has officially welcomed Waihiga Mwaura to their team as he hosts his last bulletin on Citizen TV.

In a statement shared on their socials, the BBC Africa team said that they are delighted to welcome Mwaura to their team stating that he will be hosting BBC Focus on Africa from Nairobi.

“Exciting news 🎉

“We're delighted to announce that the talented  @WaihigaMwaura will be presenting Focus on Africa TV from Nairobi. He's a respected journalist and a former winner of the prestigious BBC News Komla Dumor Award. We're thrilled he's joining our team,” the statement says.

The award-winning journalist announced his departure from Citizen TV on May 2, 2023. He has parted ways with Royal Media Services after 14 years.

He is set to kick start his new assignment at BBC on May 3, 2023.

 “After 14 amazing years at Royal Media Services (Citizen TV), my time here has come to an end. My next stop is @BBCNews @BBCAfrica specifically Focus on Africa . I'll share more details soon, but in the meantime, see you on my last episode of #Newsnight at 9pm on @citizentvkenya,” Waihiga Mwaura tweeted.

An internal memo from BBC details that they are delighted to welcome Waihiga Mwaura to their team.

At the time of his exit, Waihiga was the Multimedia managing editor at Citizen TV.

He started out as a Sports reporter and anchor before he transition into regular news anchoring.

He was later appointed the Special projects editor before transitioning to head the multimedia desk.

Waihiga has joined the list of journalists who have exited Citizen TV recently among them Francis Gachuri and Sam Ogina.
