South African media pundits report that Amapiano producer and club deejay, DJ Maphorisa is under arrest.
The DJ is reported to have been arrested on Sunday after allegedly beating up his girlfriend, actress Thuli Phongolo.
Phongolo is said to have reported to the Sandton Police Station. According to a statement seen by news24, the incident happened at the actress's house in Johannesburg.
Reports say the two started arguing a night before when they were at an event together.
“On Sunday 2023/5/7 at about 12pm, I was at my place of residence with my boyfriend, Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, better known as DJ Maphorisa. I confronted him so that we can talk about our argument, which happened the previous night during his gig,” reveals a statement by Phongolo as seen by news24.
Adding "He became aggressive and started to punch me with his fists on my chest. He held me and took me to the balcony, and grabbed me aggressively by my neck.
Maphorisa is yet to give a public statement.
