Former Churchill show comedian Akuku Danger and his family have been thrown into mourning.

Akuku is mourning the sudden demise of his younger sister who succumbed to sickle cell disease.

The comedian shared the sad news on Sunday, with a revelation that his sister was born with sickle cell disease just like him.

“Woke up to the saddest News😭😭 My small siz Went To Be With The Lord Last Night. Like Me, she was born with sickle cell Disease and she succumbed to it.

“Rest Well Warrior, Nind gi kwe Merwa🕊️😭,” read the post from Akuku Danger.

The death announcement attracted several condolence messages from fans and celebrities – many encouraging the comedian to remain strong during this difficult time.

Just the day, Akuku staged a walk-in in Nairobi to raise funds to start a foundation to support those battling the disease.

According to CDC, Sickle Cell Disease is a group of inherited red blood cell disorders.

Red blood cells contain hemoglobin, a protein that carries oxygen. Healthy red blood cells are round, and they move through small blood vessels to carry oxygen to all parts of the body.

In someone who has SCD, the hemoglobin is abnormal, which causes the red blood cells to become hard and sticky and look like a C-shaped farm tool called a “sickle.”

The sickle cells die early, which causes a constant shortage of red blood cells. Also, when they travel through small blood vessels, they get stuck and clog the blood flow.

This can cause pain and other serious complications (health problems) such as infection, acute chest syndrome, and stroke.
