Edwin Sifuna and Jalang'o

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has warned Lang'ata MP Felix Odiwuor aka Jalang'o against quitting the ODM party.

Speaking on Radio 47 on Tuesday, Sifuna told  Jalang'o that he could as well forget the Lang'ata seat if he quits.

“I want to advise my friend Jalang’o that those telling him to quit ODM are misleading him since he cannot secure a re-election in Lang’ata on any other ticket apart from ODM,” he said.

Sifuna who doubles as ODM secretary general claimed that vying with an ODM ticket made Jalang'o win the August 2022 elections.

"Jalang'o was known as a radio presenter. It was the ODM ticket that made people see him as a politician, not a journalist. So he cannot just say he will vie with whichever party," he said.

The Senator urged Jalang'o to remain and serve the ODM if he wanted to continue being an MP.

"I have told Jalang'o that even if he survives using a court order until 2027 he will not get the Lang'ata MP seat again," he added.

The opposition party last week expelled some legislators from Nyanza, who they claimed rebelled against the party.

Among those who were expelled from the party included  MPs Jalang'o,  Caroli Omondi (Suba South)  Gideon Ochanda( Bondo), Elisha Odhiambo ( Gem) and Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda.

Some nominated MCAs from Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori were also affected.

Jalang'o said he would remain an ODM member until he receives communication from the party leader Raila Odinga.

He insisted that he remain a member of the National Assembly for Lang'ata Constituency, until the next general election in 2027.

"Chama ni ya Raila Amollo Odinga na kama sijapata habari kutoka kwa Raila mimi ni mwana ODM... Mbunge wa Lang'ata hadi 2027 ni mimi Phelix Odiwuor Jalang'o. Nataka uchukue hii habari ninakuambia upeleke benki wakukope pesa kwa sababu ndio ukweli. Hakuna mabadiliko yoyote," Jalang'o said.

This loosely translates to, "The party belongs to Raila Amollo Odinga and if I have not received communication from him. I am an ODM member... The Lang'ata MP until 2027 is Phelix Odiwuor Jalang'o. Take this to the bank because it is the truth. No changes have been made."
