Former US First Lady Michelle Obama turned 60 on Wednesday.

Her husband and former US President Barack Obama took to social media to wish her a happy birthday with a touching message on X.

"This is what 60 looks like. Happy birthday to my better half — who happens to be one of the funniest, smartest, most beautiful people I know. Michelle Obama, you make every day better. I can't wait to see what this new decade brings you," he said.

Obama and Michelle married on October 3, 1992 and they have two daughters; Malia (born 1998) and Natasha (known as Sasha, born 2001).

The couple met in 1989 when Michelle was assigned to mentor Barack at a Chicago law firm.

Obama was 28 while Michelle was 25. The former President said in his memoir 'A Promised Land' that he "was smitten almost from the second I saw her".

The two never shy away from publicly celebrating each other on social media during special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries.

On October 23, 2023, on their 31st marriage anniversary, Obama wrote a sentimental message to his better half to mark the occasion.

"Happy anniversary, sweetheart! @MichelleObama, you're brilliant, kind, funny, and beautiful — and I'm lucky to call you mine."

Michelle returned the favour, and wrote on her X handle;

"31 years, and a lifetime to go. I love going through life with you by my side, Barack Obama. Happy anniversary, honey!"
