Bobi Wine's documentary earns Oscar nomination

The list of nominees for the 2024 Oscars Awards is out and Ugandan Presidential Aspirant Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is among those who made it to the list.

Wine earned a nomination to the prestigious Oscar Awards through his documentary dubbed ‘Bobi Wine, The People’s President” in the Best Documentary category. 

"Big News: Our film #BobiWineThePeoplesPresident which showcases General @KagutaMuseveni’s brutal regime and the resilient citizens pushing back, has been nominated for Best Documentary in the Oscars," he said.

"It is such a humbling moment to see the Ugandan story make it to the Academy Awards- the most prestigious and significant awards in the world. Today the fight for democracy in Uganda and around the world lives on. Thank you for this recognition."

He further expressed his appreciation for the recognition.

The nomination comes a few days after Bobi Wine rallied Kampala residents to protest against poor road infrastructure.

"The cowardly military and police have surrounded our home and put us under house arrest, but the protest is on. Fix our roads! Free Political Prisoners! Free Uganda!" the musician-turned-politician said on X.

Academy Award popularly known as the Oscar is the most famous and prestigious award in the filmmaking industry both domestically and internationally.

The 96th Academy Awards will be handed out at a ceremony in Los Angeles on 10 March honouring the film industry's finest stars and movies from the past 12 months.
