Popular Nairobi Club 1824 demolished located along Lang’ata Road has been demolished.

The nightclub was demolished on Friday, March 1, 2024, eliciting mixed reactions from social media users.

Many who weighed in on the demolition expressed displeasure arguing that the move will render many jobless.

Videos shared widely on social media capture the commotion that was on the ground when Excavators were bringing down the structures.

Employees from the said facility could be seen in a rush struggling to salvage a few valuables before they could be covered by bricks from the stricture.

The demolition comes after the High Court this month refused to withdraw legal action freezing assets worth Ksh.643.2 million belonging to 1824 owner Wilson Nahashon Kanani.

On September 13, 2023, Justice Esther Maina stopped Kanani from dealing with his holdings, which included high-end vehicles, residences, and property, as well as Sh48 million stored in multiple bank accounts.

The ruling was made after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) launched a case to seize the Nairobi County government employee's assets, the source of which he was unable to explain.

In its lawsuit, EACC stated that Kanani was a Development Control Officer II at the Nairobi County government's Urban Planning Department, making Sh88,530 per month gross or Sh55,866 net.

The entertainment establishment was initially closed on December 20, 2023, in the presence of uniformed police officers before being reopened.
