The media fraternity in Kenya is mourning the sudden demise of former KTN News anchor Michael Oyier.

Oyier died on Saturday, April 20, 2024, while receiving treatment at a city hospital.

According to a family friend,  Oyier had collapsed in his Lavington house in Nairobi on Wednesday, April 17 before being rushed to hospital.

This was after he complained of severe headache.

Here are quick facts about Michael Oyier

He was the second born in a family of 5 siblings

He was a father of two daughters (from two baby mamas)

Oyier ventured into PR after leaving KTN.

He also played as an MC in several events

Oyier worked as an anchor and presenter at Standard Group for nine years before exiting in 2012.

He later proceeded to offer counseling services and progressively became an executive leadership coach until his demise. 

Oyier was also a certified Psychologist. 

He was the second-born in a family of five and is survived by his two daughters. 

As a newscaster, Michael Oyier had a very visible public life. 

From 2006 to about 2012 he was at the helm of his career as a newscaster and he was really good at it. 

At some point, he struggled with Depression and he even narrated his struggles through an Episode on Engage Talk in December 2017

He was also known as a Church Boy because of his active Life in the Church 

After his parents passed on, he was adopted by another family that took care of him

He previously worked for KTN, Radio Africa (Kiss FM), and Nation Media Group.

Oyier had a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from USIU

He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Management from USIU

He also went to Strathmore Business School
