Floods in Nairobi

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has given a list of partially closed roads within Nairobi county.

In a statement, Kura said it partially closed the roads due to heavy rains experienced last night.

Kura listed six roads as follows Aerodrome Road, Kapenguria Road, UN Avenue - Runda, Kasarani Mwiki Road at Mwiki Bridge.

“Motorists are also warned of flooding along Mombasa Road at Cabanas, Thika Road at Githurai/ Kahawa bridge,” Kura said.

“The traffic police and our technical team are on the ground to direct traffic and enhance the safety of Motorists. We shall keep you posted as the situation unfolds.”

On Wednesday, some sections of Thika Superhighway were rendered impassable following heavy rains pounding the City.

Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) said the situation has caused traffic disruptions.

"Following heavy downpour last night and continuing this morning, traffic disruptions have occurred in some sections of the Thika Superhighway as follows," KeNHA said.

The heavy rains pounding the City have affected both vehicular and human traffic.

Some of the Estates in Nairobi have been affected so much so that several residents have been left homeless.

KeNHA said at Juja underpass, traffic snarl-up begins at Juja mall, both on the highway and service lane.

Motorists were advised to use the service lane at Exit 14 and 15 until the water subsides.
