Three suspects who were riding on a motorcycle were Wednesday morning shot and killed moments after they had snatched a mobile phone from a pedestrian in Nairobi’s South B area.

Police said the three had snatched a mobile phone from a female pedestrian near the Car and General area and rode towards South B at about 6.30 am.

Their particulars were circulated prompting an operation.

It was then police officers on patrol bumped into them opening fire.

Witnesses said they were all shot at close range. They were all young men aged below 25, police said.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are investigating the incident.

He said the group had been attacking and robbing pedestrians in the area before police were alerted.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and identification.

Bungei said they have seen a surge of cases where suspects use motorbikes to attack and steal before escaping.

“We have mobilized teams to profile the gangs behind the trend,” he said.

Meanwhile, a man was stabbed and killed in a fight in the Industrial Area, of Nairobi, police said.

The assailant is yet to be arrested.

The body of the deceased identified as Joseph Mwedwa, 21 was found with a stab wound in the chest chest.

Police said the suspected assailant is known.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy as the hunt for the assailant went on.

In Limuru, the body of a man was found Kihingo area on the roadside.

The body was found on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway about seven meters off the tarmac road.

The body had a cut on the right side of the mouth and a stab wound on the chest.

It was alleged by the residents that they heard some noises around 2 am on Wednesday before the body was discovered.

The motive of the murder is yet to be known.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.
