Veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho was allegedly abducted by unknown individuals who drove off with him in a  white Probox while at Karen Police Station seeking help.

The DCI has come out and cleared the air - saying it was a case of mistaken identity since they were targeting someone else by the name Gaitho.

"We are sorry to Gaitho. It was a case of mistaken identity," Amin said.

The journalist's daughter has since confirmed that the father was taken back to the Karen Police Station aboard the same vehicle he was bundled into.

"I’m with my dad @MachariaGaitho.  He’s just been brought to Karen police station by the car that abducted him," Anita Gaitho said in a tweet.

 "He’s safe although they roughed him up a bit. We’re making the abduction report right now."

Apart from Gaitho let's see who else has been abducted due to the anti-government protests.

Gabriel Oguda

Gabriel Oguda 

Vocal social media and political activist Gabriel Oguda was abducted on Tuesday 25th June hours to the Finance Bill demonstrations. 

In his last message before going offline, Oguda remarked that cops were at his gate.

Despite him going offline, Oguda's X account continued posting rallying calls for Kenyans to turn up for the demonstrations.

According to Oguda's brother Zachary he revealed that the tweets were scheduled and his brother wasn't safe.

He was later set free after Netizens called out his abductors.

Adding up to the list Osama Otero also tweeted  on the same day Oguda was abducted that strangers were at his home.

"Guys are outside where I am," his last post which went viral read.

Later it was reported that he was also abducted before being released hours later. 

Crazy Nairobian

Billy Simani alias Crazy Nairobian stated that his abduction followed his participation in the anti-finance bill protests held on Thursday 20th June.

Billy narrated that before his abduction five people knocked on his door and asked if he was Billy and upon confirming the took him.

'We had just come from a successful Thursday maandamano, so on Friday June 21, I was still asleep through out the day. I woke up constantly to tweet and go back to sleep. So at around 3pm, I heard a knock on the door ...When I opened the door. I saw four guys in balaclava and the fifth one was a lady,' he narrated.

Kenyan activist Kasamuel McOure went missing during the anti-government protests since he was so vocal about the punitive taxes that the government wanted to impose on the citizens.

Fortunately, he was later released after Kenyans demanded for his release.

KSL student Joshua okayo was abducted for atleast 72hours by unknown people. 

According to Okayo he was abducted as he went to greet people who he thought were students at the KSL.

Prior to the abduction he had received three phone calls  asking him to leave wherever he was and go into hiding became some people were looking for him.

“I received three calls and even shared the three numbers with my friends before I left. One of the callers asked where I was and said I should leave immediately because there were people looking for me. I received a second and third call and thought it must be serious.

“About 500 metres away from my residence, I heard someone call my name, ‘Okayo, come say hi to your KSL people and I assumed they were people who knew me. As I turned to go greet them, I got arrested. They were three people, middle aged. They bundled me into a car that was waiting there with a driver and drove off,” an emotional Okayo narrated

Alfred Keter

Former Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter was on June 30th released hours after he was dramatically arrested in Kileleshwa, Nairobi.

Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo led a group of lawyers to Kamukunji Police station to successfully seek his release.

Keter told the government officials behind his arrest that he would not be intimidated.

Police said he is under probe for claims of arms trafficking and fraud, allegations which Keter denies.

Shad Kiprono

Activist Shadrack Kiprono, popularly known as Shad Khalif, was abducted in South B on June 24, 2024.

CCTV footage capturing the moment men grabbed the activist was later leaked online, eliciting sharp reactions from Kenyans.

In the footage, Khalif is seen walking towards a white car outside a club, with two individuals in front of him. Two other men approach the activist and suddenly stand beside the vehicle Khalif is attempting to enter.

Shad is then grabbed by two individuals who emerge from the left and right, placing him in a chokehold. They tussle with the activist and bundle him into the vehicle.
