President William Ruto has awarded all Gold medalists cash prizes during a function held today at Eldoret State Lodge.

 

Athlete Beatrice Chebet got Sh6 million for winning two golds at the Olympics in Paris, France.

All Gold medal winners will be getting Sh3 million for each Gold won at the Olympics and that means Faith Kipyegon (1500M race) and Emmanuel Wanyonyi ((800M race) will also be getting Sh3 million

 

All silver medalists have received Sh2 million each, while Bronze medalists have received Sh1 million each. The government says the cash rewards have already hit their bank accounts.

During the Paris Olympics, the African continent won a total of 39 medals—13 gold, 12 silver, and 14 bronze— spread across 12 nations, with Kenya the most successful with 11 podium finishes.

That was an increase of two medals on the tally in Japan three years ago, but it was below the 45 that African competitors secured in Rio 2016.

Team Kenya at the OlympicsKenya finished 17th overall at the just concluded 2024 Paris Olympic Games where the country scooped a total of 11 medals. They included four gold, two silver, and five bronze.

Faith Kipyegon blazed to victory in the women's 1500m finishing in 3:51.29 to set a new Olympic record.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi won gold in men's 800m in 1:41.19, the third fastest time ever, just 0.2 seconds behind David Rudisha's 1:40.91 world record set in 2012.

Beatrice Chebet on the other hand won two golds, one in the 5000m and the other in the 10000m women's race.
