Actress Winnie ‘Dida’ Bwire laid to rest in Kakamega

Kenyan actress Winnie ‘Dida’ Bwire was on Saturday laid to rest in her rural home in Matungu, Kakamega County in an emotional ceremony.

Thousands of mourners gathered at their home to pay their last respects as the actress, who died after a battle with cancer.

In attendance were also thespians from Jiffy Pictures, a production house she worked for.

 
 

Led by their Boss Lulu Hassan, the Jiff Pictures team eulogized Bwire as a talented artist who featured effortlessly in multiple shows.

A solemn tribute to Winnie Bwire, symbolizing the light she left behind. In the quiet embrace of the night a tender reminder of her enduring spirit, forever cherished and missed by everyone. Our human is resting. No more pain. Thank you @kupakenya for standing in the gap. God bless. Thank you @rok_industries for the candles,” a statement from Jiff Pictures read.

Another caption from them said; “We are a family and WINNIE will forever be a part of the family in heart and in spirit . Thank you HUMAN . Rest Easy,”.

 
 

Some of the celebrities who attended the burial are; Lulu Hassan, Trisha Khalid, actress Maria, and Wanjiku Stephens among others.

Bwire's DEATH 

Bwire passed away on September 5th while receiving treatment in Turkey. She succumbed to metastatic breast cancer.

Family and friends paid tribute to Bwire, describing her as a fighter. She raised to fame through her role as 'Dida' in the drama series Sultana, which aired on Citizen TV.

Bwire began her artistic journey at the age of six, performing poems and plays. Her first professional role was in the 2014 Kenyan project Penzi, which marked the beginning of her career.

She went on to feature in other productions such as Tehanini Kisasa, Kalimani Dynasty, and Sultana.

Bwire had a diverse range of talents, including acting, scriptwriting, songwriting, singing, painting, and interior design.

She was also a skilled baker and businesswoman. In addition to her artistic career, she earned a degree in Industrial Fine Art and Design from Makerere University. She had been in a relationship with Dan Sonko, which ended in 2023.
