Gospel artist Ruth Matete's husband John Olakami was today buried at the Lang'ata cemetery.

This comes after a family spokesman confirmed that John would be buried today.

The body has been lying at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Mortuary since April 11 when he succumbed to fire-related injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Most of John’s relatives and friends reside in Nigeria and were not able to attend the burial because of the ongoing Covid 19 travel restrictions.

Back in May, John's family wrote a letter to the Nigerian government, requesting that their son's corpse be buried by 'his Kenyan wife'

This was after the Nigerian embassy had barred the gospel artist from burying the body.

The letter which is dated April 29th, read;

“WITH REGARDS TO THE DEATH OF OUR SON, JOHN APEWAJOYE, WE REQUEST THAT THE CORPSE SHOULD BE BURIED BY HIS KENYAN WIFE WITHOUT FURTHER DELAY FOR HIS SOUL TO BE AT PEACE. ALL AUTOPSY RESULTS DULY ACCEPTED.”

May John continue resting in eternal peace.
