The Weeknd has become the first artist to ever reach 100 million listeners on Spotify.

This marks a huge milestone in his career as he has been in the music industry for 13 years.

The Canadian singer came ahead of his fellow artists Miley Cyrus with  82 million monthly listeners, Taylor Swift with 80.3 million monthly listeners, Rihanna with 79.6 million monthly listeners, and Shakira with 77.6 million monthly listeners respectively.

His recent collaboration with Ariana Grande on the Die for you Remix song has left fans gasping for more as it currently has amassed 16 Million views on YouTube in just 5 days.

In the past, the two have come together in the songs 'Love me harder', 'Off the table', and 'Save your tears Remix'.

 

The Weeknd kickstarted his career in the year 2009 when he released 3 singles that got recognition from big names in the industry and rejuvenated his stardom.

The Weeknd released his first studio album, Kiss land, in 2013. The album received favorable reviews from music critics.

After Kiss Land debuted, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Ariana Grande, and Sia were among the performers with whom he shared a stage.

In 2015, he released the track Earned it which was covered in the soundtrack for the film Fifty Shades of Grey.

The song received a nomination for Best Original Song at the 88th Academy Awards.

He released songs from his second studio album, including Can't Feel My Face and The Hills, in the same year.

The songs were a huge success. As a result, The Weeknd became well-known all around the world, and ever since his star has continued to shine brighter. 

 

He has subsequently won 4 Grammy Awards, and 20 Billboard Music Awards and has been nominated for an Oscar and an Emmy.
