South African producer/ Amapiano star DJ Maphorisa has been released on a cash bail topped with several conditions after he was arrested for battering his girlfriend club DJ and actress Thuli Phongolo.
Interestingly enough, Thuli is the main reason why the Amapiano DJ is out of jail.
South African media pundits report that Thuli filed a withdrawal statement after she filed charges against her boyfriend on Sunday and agreed that the accused be released on bail.
A move that seems to have angered a lot of South Africa's and netizens globally.
The 35-year-old was granted bail of R4000 however it comes with a strict condition attached to it.
Magistrate Clement Mukhodobyane ordered Maphorisa to not be in contact with Thuli Phongolo, not even on social media.
“You must not be in contact with her. Even on social media platforms. I hope you understand.” The magistrate stated adding that Thuli was allowed to collect her belongings from his place.
Adding that Maphorisa's assault case hearing had been postponed to June 14th as further investigations are conducted despite the actress filing a withdraw statement.
Media houses were barred from recording the live proceedings of the court appearance.
Yesterday netizens woke up the shocking news of the battery and Maphorisa's arrest. It was reported that the DJ allegedly hit and strangled the former Generations actress at her Sandton apartment after a heated argument.
Thuli is said to have reported the assault to the Sandton Police Station. According to a statement seen by news24, the incident happened at the actress's house in Johannesburg.
Reports say the two started arguing a night before when they were at an event together.
“On Sunday 2023/5/7 at about 12pm, I was at my place of residence with my boyfriend, Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, better known as DJ Maphorisa. I confronted him so that we can talk about our argument, which happened the previous night during his gig,” reveals a statement by Thuli Phongolo as seen by news24.
The statement goes on to read: "He became aggressive and started to punch me with his fists on my chest. He held me and took me to the balcony, and grabbed me aggressively by my neck.
Apart from the battery, another shocking revelation was the fact that the 2 were a couple.
Back in 2021,rumours started flying that the two were dating, but Thuli rubbished the claims. Ever since then they've managed to distance themselves from the rumours, only for their relationship to come out during a domestic battery case.
